My time was re-prioritised with news of little Kirsten Lily Gerber (my now born, little baby girl). With exciting new challenges on the horizon and a will like no other, I set off to build a master plan to grow my wealth.

I am happy to report that although several setbacks, I am on track to achieving those goals. Upward and onward 2012!

I will be blogging on riply.co.za again. Writing. Inspiring. Sharing. Helping. Most importantly of all, I will again, be re-prioritising my time in the pursuit of a balanced life: family, friends, business, leisure and lifestyle.

Kirsten has two parents who she depends on now. Unfortunately I am not able to spend as much time as I would like to with her, however I will be using that time to build a future for her. For us.One day she will look up at me and say: “Thank you Daddy.”

2012 is it guys and girls. Those goals that you have hidden away that you think about just before you blow out that birthday candle and make ‘that‘ wish – pull your finger out of your arse and make it happen. This year. I’ll tell you a little secret – no one else is going to do it for you.

I trust that you will all enjoy the rest of your new year’s celebrations and keep safe!

Some other hot chic.

I wonder this… as  I look at myself in the mirror, and well…. I can’t see how anyone would find this appealing. “This” being the whole package…head to toe..including the bulging belly and thunder thighs. (I never thought I’d ever have to use that description for myself – “Thunder Thighs”, that was always used to describe someone else, never me… but I guess I’ll just have to embrace it now as each time I heave myself onto the scale it groans back at me with a heftier weight than before)…

So if I can barely look at myself in the mirror, I can only imagine other’s thoughts as I put on my bikini to go for a swim at the gym (yes, a bikini, as my bather no longer fits….. and I know it ALL hangs out… every last bit… “Go big, or go home” I say… but what must I do?)… I do see the stares from everyone, and I am aware that I no longer waddle, I wobble.

But whatever. I’ll just have to find the time to go to gym or something once Baby arrives… inbetween looking after Baby, cleaning up the flat, and working a full-time job… bleh… I’m sure I can do it? Maybe?

There’s nothing attractive about being pregnant at all. So I don’t blame you. I wouldn’t want to cuddle this either. They shouldn’t glamourize pregnancy in the magazines… It only makes the rest of us feel grotesque…

Photobay.co.za is doing well. Very well.

We launched our CRM early last week and already, our site’s traffic has climbed over 3500% – 295780 hits this month already. Photobay’s community is sitting at over 100 registered members in less than 7 days!

There are big things coming for Photobay.co.za and the community that is being built around it. We are busy networking away, literally and figuratively speaking, building and developing – teething, fixing, progressing. All very exciting!

What I love about taking photos for Photobay.co.za is that I am 9 times out of 10, outdoors. It’s a great excuse to go on a ‘hike’ and soak up the outdoors. Sure, I’m am mostly alone – but there’s nothing like time to think and snap the occasional picture of someone doing something they love – recording their expressions for their family and friends to look back on, again and again!

So now, I have all of these great photographs, and more.. what do I do with them after the race? Well, I sell them to Photobay.co.za Where else can I get some bucks from my hours, laboring away?

With a little research, it looks like iStockphoto.com is a good place to start looking. I have just registered under ChristopherCombrink to see what they can offer.

I will report on them again, once I make my first sale!

So this is roughly where it all began… except not here, on this day, or in this spot. Who knows when the big bang actually happened… this is just a random picture of “mom and dad”. Gosh that’s going to take some getting used to… 

So 2010 is the year it all began, and roughly July sometime you were created. Since then… I have changed shape, at an alarming rate! Good bye tummy…. hello baby…! The only thing I’ll admit to liking about this morphing is the fact that for the first time in my life i have some boobies…. I skipped that part of puberty… but with some luck you’ll get those genes from dad’s side of the family we can only hope! Although if dad is so hell-bent on making you a tom-boy then maybe inheritting my genes might not be such a bad thing after all! Only time will tell…. 

 

The only issue was – would it work on my Ubuntu PCs? The answer – YES!

I enquired at the store and sure enough, the Clerk said that it had been done on “Linux” but he could make no promises. I grinned as I signed the paper work.

20mins later, I was on my way home to get it working. 40mins later, I’m sitting here writing this how-to.

How to get your Cell-C USB dongle to connect to the internet using Ubuntu 10.04:

Step 1:

Open up a terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal) and install usb_modeswitch

sudo aptitude install usb_modeswitch

Step 2:

Update your system:

sudo updatedb

Find the newly installed config file: usb_modeswitch.conf

sudo locate usb_modeswitch.conf and open it to edit with vi / nano / your own pref. app.

(It will be located in etc/usb_modeswitch.conf)

sudo nano /etc/usb_modeswitch.conf

Step 3:

Add the following text to the bottom of the file and save:

DefaultVendor=  0x12d1
DefaultProduct= 0x1446
TargetVendor=	0x12d1
TargetProduct=	0x1001
MessageEndpoint=	0x01
MessageContent=	"55534243000000000000000000000011060000000000000000000000000000"

Step 4:

In your terminal start “sudo usb_modeswitch”

sudo sudo usb_modeswitch

Step 5:

Right, you’re done with the Terminal. Now for the GUI.

Open up System > Preferences > Network Connections > Mobile Broadband Tab > Add
You should see something like “Create a connection for this device – HUAWEI Technology HUAWEI Mobile”
Go through the Wizard, select “South Africa”, “Cell-C”, and the “Default Plan” – “Apply”.
Click on the new connection you’ve just added and click Edit.

There will be a lot of configuration already done for you. What you need to change:

• “Tick” connect automatically.
• “Tick” available to all.
• Remove the username where it says cellc and leave it blank.
• Add the password (this is the PIN that’s set on your SIM Card. 0000 (zeros) by default.
• Click Apply. You’re connected! (If you did not select “Connect Automatically” you’ll have to select the connection via the Network connection manager (top right on the Desktop).

Let me know if you have any issues – but this’ the easiest 5min-work-around Ubuntu has seen in a long time!

It’s an interesting, abusive, mix of 21st century freedom-of-speech (that would have my grandmother doing the splits in her grave..) and some college-styled humor. Worth a listen though, if you’re up for an open-minded laugh. On second thought – just watch the video – it’s funny as hell!

Christmas Carols willbe sung – only the best of the ‘classics’ and friends made.

R5 will get you in and you’ll be supplied with your sheet music as well as a traditional candle to sing your carols by.

The Tygerberg Men’s Choir will be performing and leading the Carols with drinks and food available on sale to  fill your bellies. Bring the Kids along too – there will be plenty of entertainment to keep them happy!
