Last weekend had me up nice and early, with Table Mountain in my sights. The Puffer 2009!
Now, needless to say – I was not taking part. Yes, I have started to do regular trail runs.. but my little (pastey) legs are not ready for 80kms of hell, That’s right, EIGHTY.
The guys and gals from the CRAG Runners and I met at about 9h30 in the morning at the foot of Constantia Neck. Myself and the Doctor heading up the paths while the rest caught a lift in the cars (with permits obviously
).
Will, the winner, came past us once we’d hit the water spot we were Marchalling/Running ten minutes after we’d setup – a staggering 25mins ahead of second, Louis (I believe his name was) who holds the record for the quickest Puffer!
All in all, it was a lovely morning, cheering the 120 guys and gals that were taking part! Some (10) of whom were doing the Tuffer Puffer (The Puffer, twice. 160km in one stint!!!).
Just as we were packing up, I was asked if I’d like to sweep the last of the runners for the race. Unfortunately, I had hiking boots on and not running shoes.. next year
A hearty Congratulations to James Fraiser who came 9th! He is in fact the man behind motivating me to to anything remotely ‘active’ – an Ex High School teacher. Brilliant effort man! Perhaps one day when I’m a little more solid, I’ll second you?
