I was invited along, the night before, to participate in a Duathlon with my Boss, Chris. Naturally, I was keen.
I’ve been doing a fair bit of running (read: running through the mountains, not road) and thought to myself – hell, a little MTB Ride coupled with a Run.. how difficult could it be? Right? :p
The distances were 5km run, 18km MTB and 2km run. Fair game.
I made sure that I was in the breakaway for the run and kept up with the lads (and ladies) until the end of the run. Throughout my eyes catching “Atlantic Triathlon Club”-this, “Western Provence Duathlon”-that. I was way out of my league….
Come the Transision point, I was happy to see that I was still doing well managing to stay in the top 20. Position was, however, the only thing that was looking up. I was quickly realising that what makes a multi-sport event difficult is the swapping from one disapline to another!!
1km into the MTB, I was flat on my back. I remained there for 30mins, followed by another 10
After my heart had sunk out of my throat, I slinked my way back to the starting point and sought out a tall pint of Apple Juice. Glorious!
All in all, I’ve ear-marked it as a growing experiance. A Milestone that I can use for a building block
Although I didn’t finish, I did come away with a lovely picture or two from Oakpics! Tx guys! (P.S. don’t laugh at the pasty legs.. it’s winter – OKAY!)
